Director of Nursing

LOCATION: Hybrid (4 to 5 days on-site weekly)
PAY RANGE: Band H ($123,000 to $156,000 annual)

The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all nursing and medical assistant services at CRCH, including our Vaccine for Children Program (VFC), and overseeing infection control and occupational health processes. As a member of the CRCH clinical leadership team, the Director of Nursing is responsible for collaborating with other team members on best practices involving patient care.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee site Nurse Manager(s), Medical Assistant Manager(s), and the Chronic Care Nurse Lead by providing direct supervision to, and coordination of, daily expectations.
- Oversee Chronic Care Management and be the direct contact for the ACO.
- Work with Nurse Manager(s), in collaboration with Site Managers and other team members, to plan, organize, and direct all nursing services within the Nursing Department:
- Steward the philosophy, purpose, policies, procedures, and standards for RN/LPN care within the Medical Department.
- Ensure adequate RN/LPN, staffing and competency throughout the Nursing Department.
- Foster an environment in which each RN/LPN practices to the top of their license, certification, and/or skillset and role.
- Introduce nursing innovations by piloting new roles and care delivery models, with the primary goal of making patient care safer, more effective, timely, efficient, equitable, patient-centered, and family-focused.
- Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators for both staffing and performance metrics.
- Work with Medical Assistant Manager(s), in collaboration with Site Managers and other team members, to plan, organize, direct and foster medical assistant workflows and relationships with providers within the medical department:
- Steward the philosophy, purpose, policies, procedures, and standards for medical assistants within the Medical Department.
- Ensure adequate MA staffing and competency throughout the medical Department.
- Foster an environment in which each MA practices to the top of their certification, and/or skillset and role, while staying within scope.
- Introduce provider support innovations by piloting new roles and care delivery models with the primary purpose of making patient care more safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable, patient-centered, and family-focused.
- Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators for both staffing and performance metrics.
- Generate and implement both an onboarding and a continuing education curriculum for RNs, LPNs, and MAs, aimed at maximizing staff retention and professional development utilizing existing software at CRCH.
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team members as well as other clinical leaders within the organization on issues of patient care, clinical quality, compliance, customer service, utilization management, care management, patient access, system redesign, safety, and health center strategy:
- Partner with the Risk/Compliance team in the organization’s readiness programs for regulatory surveys, including Joint Commission, NCQA, DPH, FTCA, and HRSA site visits.
- Review and act on patient satisfaction surveys, incident reports, and other feedback relating to nursing care.
- Evaluate nursing clinic access data and work with clinical directors to improve wait times for nursing services
- Run the annual Flu Clinic for CRCH employees.
- Develop Nursing Department budget, together with the Medical Director, the Chief Operations Officer, and the Chief Financial Officer.
- Participate in strategic planning to integrate team-based care models that improve clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency:
- Ensure nursing staff are trained and empowered to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Evaluate team-based care practices and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Revise and maintain the organization’s infection control and occupational health policies.
- Complete one clinical session on the floor per month (4 hours).
- Attend all required meetings; these include, but may not be limited to:
- Primary Care Collaboration (weekly)
- Medical Department Staff Meeting (monthly)
- Medical Managers Meeting (weekly)
- Quality Council Meeting (monthly)
- ACO meeting (monthly)
- Population Health meeting (monthly)
- Clinical Committee Meeting (Q1-3 months)
- Credentialing Committee (Q1-3 months)
- Environment of Care Meeting (Q1-3 months)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer or designee.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, TRAITS
- BSN in nursing, or Master’s Degree/advanced practice degree in nursing required.
- Must have 5-10 of RN experience with 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
- Must have a current valid Massachusetts RN license.
- Must have at least 2 years of primary care experience as a registered nurse.
- Must have at least 2 years of nurse management experience.
- Must be willing to travel to/from both CRCH sites and off-site meetings. Must be open to occasional off-hour events and meetings with flexibility to attend on weekends as requested.
- Experience working within a complex healthcare system with multiple product lines is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole preferred.
- Primary care triage preferred.
- Experience with Patient Centered Medical Home model and concepts preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with EMR and Microsoft Office systems required.
- Experience working with diverse cultures preferred with strong commitment to creating an inclusive work environment and reducing inequities among the patients we serve.
- Must have a willingness to work flexible hours to meet the organization's needs/demands.
- Must be able to travel to either Charles River Community Health site (Brighton and Waltham) as needed.
- Must have excellent communication skills, particularly with people from diverse cultures, with the ability to understand the community, population, and patients we serve.
- Must believe in the work we do at CRCH, with a strong passion to serve underserved populations in diverse settings.
